(Grand Rapids, Mich.) – On September 17, the Aquinas College Contemporary Writers Series presents poet and award-winning writer Gregory Orr. A master of short, lyric free verse, Orr is the author of eleven collections of poetry. His most recent volumes include: Selected Books of the Beloved, The Last Love Poem I Will Ever Write, River Inside the River, How Beautiful the Beloved, and Concerning the Book that is the Body of the Beloved. His memoir, The Blessing, was chosen by Publisher’s Weekly as one of the fifty best non-fiction books of 2002.

 The untitled poem from Orr’s latest collection, “River Inside the River“ continues a sequence of poems on that theme.

The “beloved” can be any object of affection: a person, a place, a pet. And it is within those targets of love — and our relationships to them — that Orr finds meaning for his life. “Without any sense [of] the beloved, it seems to me the world goes dead, or the world goes just to self, which is even worse,” Orr said.
